Suarez insists that Man city and Chelsea are still the favourites

Liverpool keep pace but Luis Suarez tips Chelsea and Manchester City

Luis Suarez insists Chelsea and Manchester City remain the favourites for the Premier League title, despite his goals in a 6-3 win over Cardiff keeping Liverpool in touch at the top.

Suarez scored a hat-trick in a thriller that saw the relegation-threatened hosts twice take the lead, his haul equalling Robbie Fowler's 28-goal record for a league season with the Reds.

Brendan Rodgers' side are four points behind leaders Chelsea with a game in hand, though Manchester City, two points back in third spot, have played two fixtures less.

Both those sides won big, thrashing Arsenal 6-0 and Fulham 5-0 respectively, and Suarez admits the pair will be tough to overhaul.

"I think the two teams that are the best candidates for the title are Chelsea and Manchester City," the Uruguay international told Sky Sports News.

"But we'll keep going. We work very hard and the focus is on the next two games because we're at home (against Sunderland and Tottenham).

"It's so difficult to win the title but in football you never know."

Midfielder Joe Allen said his team-mates were determined to run Jose Mourinho and Manuel Pellegrini's men to the end.

"We've got great belief and confidence in ourselves and we're just focused on keeping this run we're on going," he said.

"We're at the business end now and we want to make sure we don't slip up."
