Red Devil's midfielder dropped from the national squad

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata will have to fight for a place at this summer's World Cup after being left out of Spain's squad for their friendly with Italy next week.

Mata broke into Spain's first team in 2009 and has been a regular fixture in the last few years and as part of the 2010 World Cup winning squad and 2012 European Championship winning squad.

In total he has 32 caps for his country but has not featured regularly at club level this season, perhaps a reason for his omission.
He signed for Chelsea in 2011, winning the FA Cup and Champions League in his first season, and was voted Chelsea's player of the season for two consecutive years.
Since Jose Mourinho's arrival in the summer he has been used more sporadically, eventually securing a £37 million move to Manchester United in January.
The 25-year-old will now have to fight his way back into the squad ahead of the World Cup in Brazil this summer, as Spain look to make it four major international trophies in a row.

Torres was part of both European Championship winning team's in 2008 and 2012, as well as the World Cup in 2010, but has struggled in his time at the Blues, scoring just 19 goals in over 100 league appearances.
